We would love volunteers to come and set up/clean up the supplies each recess and help supervise and support the students as they work with the materials. Volunteers do not need to be versed in counseling - we can provide some very simple guidelines for how to respond to children should conversation come up around their experiences or worries and will have counseling staff available should students have acute needs. They just need to be ready to get markers, glue, and glitter on their fingers and spread some love in this little community.
Through the process of supporting our students and families, we have found the kids are seeking out ways to engage in community and express their emotional process through creativity and gratitude. To support this, we want to set up an arts and craft station that will be available to students during recess and lunch for students to draw pictures, write thank you’s to first responders, send notes of love and encouragement to friends and family . . . whatever is on their hearts and minds to engage in community with their peers.
